Chest And Back Muscle Pain

It is not very commonly that you have chest and back pain together in one patient, but it is not that rare either. Often such suffering is as a result of complications or side effects from using certain medications such as amlodipine for the treatment of angina and high blood pressure.

Funny thing, angina itself is chest pain caused by the lack of sufficient blood flow to the heart. Since there are so many potential causes of back pain, it is often hard to appropriately diagnose the suffering of a patient without an exhaustive and sometimes invasive diagnostic procedure carried out.

The saving grace in the treatment of back and chest pain is that when both symptoms are present in a single patient, the most likely cause is coronary heart disease. Knowing this, the physician will certainly attempt to confirm or eliminate that one before they move on to other things.

For instance, other potential causes of upper back and chest pain could be aneurysms, of the thoracic aortic or of the abdominal aortic nerves; or the genetic disorder sickle cell that could lead to other severe infections and damage to organs; as well as simple traumas from any number of accidents.

However, unless the cause is immediately apparent, the doctor will always attempt to rule out coronary heart disease in any complaint of chest pains, which in its extremities often results in back pain as well.

It is a fact, for instance that angina pectoris is the leading symptom of coronary heart disease, and it causes the squeezing chest pain that often radiates to the neck, jaw, back, and left arm. When you get that chest and back muscle pain, you know it is time to see the doctor to avoid complications.
